Risk Based Land Use Planning (EMA program)

Increasingly developers and planners feel uncomfortable with traditional approaches to hazards management. This course assists participants to develop a risk management approach to dealing with natural hazards and land use planning. Key areas covered in the course include:
• Applying the Risk Management Approach
• Preparing or Adapting a Code or Plan
• Designing Residential Projects
• Preparing an Application
• Assessing an Application
Who should participate?
Planners who work primarily for or with Local Government, Australian Government (including EMA) or State agency nominees involved in risk based land use planning for hazards, EM officers with an interest in Risk Based Land Use Planning.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this program participants should be able to:
• apply the risk management framework to land use planning activities;
• explain the role of the land use planning system in the mitigation of natural hazards; and,
• apply the principles of Risk Based Land Use Planning.
Assessment and Certification
Participants will be required to successfully complete assessment tasks in order to receive an EMA certificate.

This course is a prerequisite for subsequent Emergency Risk Management programs offered by EMA.
