About the Australian Emergency Manuals | Australian Emergency Manuals by title or by number | Emergency Services Skills Series

The Australian Emergency Manuals Series has been developed to assist in the management and delivery of support services in a disaster context.  It comprises principles, strategies and actions, compiled by practitioners with management and service delivery experience in a range of disaster events.The series has been developed by a national consultative committee representing a range of State and Territory agencies involved in the delivery of support services and sponsored by Emergency Management Australia (EMA).

AEM Manuals

The first publication in the original AEM Series of mainly skills reference manuals was produced in 1989. In August 1996, on advice from the National Emergency Management Principles and Practice Advisory Group, EMA agreed to expand the AEM Series to include a more comprehensive range of emergency management principles and practice reference publications.

These Australian Emergency Manual Series publications are are available in full PDF format. Limited print copies are distributed to State and Territory emergency management organisations, community organisations, and relevant government agencies. These manuals are also available free of charge on CD upon request. Please send requests to ema@ema.gov.au.

The Emergency Services Skills Series are issued as training guides to State agencies through each State and Territory Emergency Service and are available here for download as PDF files..

The Land Search Operations manual (LSOM), under the skills series, is now being maintained by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority through the National Search and Rescue Council in conjunction with the State SES organisations. This initiative has been undertaken in the interests of a national approach to search and rescue in Australia.  The LSOM will be incorporated into the National Search and Rescue Manual in due course.  A current copy of the LSOM and the National Search and Rescue Manual can be viewed from the following website: http://natsar.amsa.gov.au/Manuals/index.asp.
