Human rights and anti-discrimination
The Australian Government Attorney-General's Department provides legal and policy information on:
- domestic human rights matters
- anti-discrimination legislation, and
- implementation of international human rights obligations.
The Department also has a policy advising role and administrative responsibilities for the:
- Australian Human Rights Commission.
The Department provides legal and policy information on matters arising under the:
- Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986
- the Racial Discrimination Act 1975
- the Sex Discrimination Act 1984
- the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, and
- the Age Discrimination Act 2004
The Department administers and reviews these Acts as required.
The Department is also involved in the development of standards under the Disability Discrimination Act concerning access to premises, public transport and education.
