A large and diverse number of industrial, agricultural and veterinary chemicals are legitimately used by individuals and organisations every day throughout Australia. However, some of these chemicals have been used to facilitate terrorist attacks throughout the world. The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has identified some of these as chemicals of security concern.
The Attorney-General’s Department is responsible for the implementation of the COAG Agreement on Australia’s National Arrangements for the Management of Security Risks Associated with Chemicals. The Australian Government is working with State and Territory governments in a coordinated approach through the National Government Advisory Group. Australian governments are also working in partnership with industry through the National Industry Reference Group to minimise the risks associated with chemicals of security concern and make Australia an even safer place to live.
