National Engagement

Emergency Management Australia (EMA) provides national leadership in the development of emergency management measures to reduce risk to communities and manage the consequences of disasters. EMA provides national leadership through coordinating national emergency management governance arrangements and the development of national emergency management strategies and policy direction.

EMA contributes to national emergency management by delivering a program of professional education, implementing initiatives to address identified gaps and raising public awareness of emergency management risks.

EMA manages the consequences of disasters through the coordination of the Australian Government disaster response, relief and recovery arrangements as and when required to do so in a timely and effective manner.

EMA administers the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements program, a contingency fund to assist the States and Territories to recover from natural disasters. EMA also administers four capability enhancement programs to:
