About the Indian Ocean Tsunami
On the morning of Sunday 26 December 2004, a severe earthquake off the coast of northern Sumatra measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale triggered a tsunami. Over 200,000 people were killed and widespread damage occurred across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and the east coast of Africa.
