About Mount Pinatubo eruption
On 15 June 1991, the world’s largest eruption in more than half a century took place at Mount Pinatubo, Philippines. Monitoring of the volcano prior to eruption and communication of warnings enabled the evacuation of people living near the volcano. 189 people were killed and 216,000 families affected, with damage estimated at US$400 million.
