Introduction to Emergency Risk Management
The Introduction to Emergency Risk Management (IERM) program presents students with the basic concepts of Emergency Risk Management at an introductory level. There are no prerequisites for the course.
The program will invite you to explore the concept of risk and the method used to manage emergency level risk in a community environment. It will also give you an opportunity to consider some of the many aspects of what can go wrong and what it might impact.
Focusing on the practice of emergency risk management within communities, this program provides an introduction to the key concepts and processes associated with emergency risk management consistent with the Risk Management Standard AS/NZS 4360 (2004).
Who should participate?
This program is designed for people interested in emergency risk management who may be participating in an emergency risk management process, in full or in part, at local/regional level.
It is suggested that people involved in the following job roles would benefit from this program:
- emergency service officers
- health professionals
- community workers
- local government employees
- medical administrators
- workers in essential services industries
- non-government voluntary organisation workers
- other volunteers
- anyone likely to be involved in risk assessment or emergency management planning.
Course Content
The Introduction to Emergency Risk Management (IERM) program presents the following content to students:
- explains the stages of the Emergency Risk Management Process.
- articulates a range of issues pertaining to the application of Emergency Risk Management within a community.
- outlines the differences between risk management as it would be applied in an organisation and to a community.
- outlines the benefits associated with using the Emergency Risk Management process.
