Schools Education

The school curriculum provides many different opportunities for teachers and students to study the issues involved in the risk and consequences of disaster.

These issues, and the knowledge of preparedness and risk reduction methods, can often be studied in a local context, developing life skills and knowledge at an early age, which can influence families and local communities.

Education in this area contributes to the personal resilience of children and enables them to see themselves as part of the wider community.

Emergency Management Australia’s (EMA) schools education program supports the learning and teaching in this area with publications, videos and interactive learning games for students, teachers and the general public.

The program aims to enhance community resilience to the effects of disasters, based on the premise that children and schools play a key part in any community education, reflecting the value of children as natural messengers to their families and local communities.

EMA Schools Website
