Responding to Emergencies
Responding to emergencies is referred to as ‘response.’ Response is action taken and measures planned in anticipation of, during, and immediately after an emergency to ensure that its effects are minimised, and that people affected are given immediate relief and support.
Response arrangements
When Australian citizens overseas are affected by an emergency, the Australian Government has plans that are designed to assist Australians get assistance and return to Australia if necessary. Each State and Territory has its own set of response arrangements to deal with emergencies.
Emergency Management Australia (EMA) offers nationally recognised training courses, such as the Coordinate Resources within a Multi-Agency Emergency Response course. To find out more details on this course, visit the EMA Institute page.
The Australian Red Cross has a program called Emergency REDiPlan to assist people to respond to emergencies.
