Volunteers National Photographic Competition 2010

Based on the adage that a ‘picture is worth a thousand words’, the Attorney-General’s Department is searching for the best photographs to recognise emergency management volunteers in action. The theme is ‘Emergency Management Volunteers – Thank You’.
The competition is open to:
- professional photographers (ie media organisations or freelance)
- individuals who are not professional photographers, and
- secondary school students (Years 9-12).
Photographs must have been taken between 1 July 2008 and 24 March 2010. Entries close 31 March 2010. National winning entries and State/Territory highly commended entries will be announced at an awards ceremony at the commencement of National Volunteer Week, 10-16 May 2010.

Competition awards
- The Judging Panel will select ONE National winning photograph in each stream and have the option to confer highly commended awards.
- A State/Territory highly commended award may also be selected in each stream.
- The photographer judged to be the outright winner in each stream will receive an award plaque, framed certificate and gift card from Harvey Norman.
- Highly commended entrants in each stream will receive a framed certificate.
- The judging panel may also confer commended awards, with the entrant receiving a framed certificate.
- If the quality of entries falls below the required standard in any competition stream, in the opinion of the judges, the Department reserves the right to not provide an award in that stream.
- Winners and finalists will be invited to attend an award ceremony. Travel expenses will be covered by the Department.

Harvey Norman has generously sponsored the National ‘Emergency Management Volunteers – Thank You’ competition in 2010. National Winners in each stream will receive a Harvey Norman gift card to the value of:
- Professional photographer - $1,500
- Individuals (not professional) photographer - $750
- Secondary school student (Years 9-12) - $ 500.
