Recovering from Emergencies

Recovering from emergencies is referred to as ‘recovery.’ Recovery is a coordinated process of supporting emergency-affected communities in reconstruction of the physical infrastructure and restoration of emotional, social, economic and physical wellbeing.

Recovery incorporates Consequence Management, a process that is described in greater detail on the Consequence Management page.

Funding is available to States and Territories for disaster relief and recovery. More details are available on the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements page.

Emergency Management Australia (EMA) offers nationally recognised training in the course Manage Recovery Functions and Services, as well as professional development courses in Recovery Management. To find out when these courses will run and how to apply to attend, visit the EMA Institute page.

The Australian Red Cross has a program called Emergency REDiPlan to assist people in recovering from emergencies.
